I believe my role as a teacher is to nurture and encourage the lifelong learning of the students that walk into my classroom. Creating a welcoming space for all learners will allow creativity and exploration to happen in a safe environment. Why I teach is to be a mentor to the students and to encourage lifelong learning. What I teach is a responsibility, accountability, critical thinking and creative thinking. How I teach is by actively engaging the students and considering all learning styles of each student individually. How I measure my effectiveness is by having open communication with the students and parents and reflecting back on what worked, what did not work and what I could have done differently.
My current strengths as a student are that I am always prepared for class, organized, take my learning seriously and am always putting my full effort and time into my assignments and lessons. One weakness that I have is being afraid to ask for help. I prefer to do things on my own but when I am stuck I find it difficult to ask for help from others. I have been working on this throughout my schooling and know that it is alright to ask for help and that asking is something that should not be looked down upon.
My motivation to learn is to be able to share my knowledge with others, whether it be students or colleagues. I have always enjoyed school and helping others learn new concepts and then being able to show what they have learned sparks a desire to continue.
I was once a Special Educational Assistant with superpowers, now I am a teacher candidate learning about new superpowers that I will need.
